The Collecting Exercise
The name of this exercise is taken from horsemanship where “the horse bears more weight on its hind end than on its front." Collection and physical balance are closely tied together. When using the collecting exercise in training, the dog learns to settle his energy back on his haunches in a very relaxed and pleasurable down position. This makes it much easier for him to ground his energy and, as a result, he’s much less likely to be thrown off balance emotionally.
