Behavior Problems

"Since many behavioral disorders don’t respond to classical or operant
conditioning, the specialist might prescribe drugs. Our complaint is that
behaviorists think all animals learn the same way."
—Raymond and Lorna Coppinger
One reason people seek out the services of a qualified trainer is to help them solve behavior problems. Whether it’s something fairly simple—like pulling on the leash or jumping up on people—, or something more difficult, like aggression, fearfulness, separation anxiety, or PTSD—, all behavior problems relate in some way back to two main questions any dog has: “Am I safe?” and “What do I do with my energy?” And since Natural Dog Training is specifically geared to address those questions, we are better able to solve behavior problems than other trainers or even veterinary behaviorists.
It may sound simple, and it is. But that doesn’t mean it’s quick or easy. Much of it depends on how long the dog has had a specific behavior problem and how far away from normal the dog’s personality and behaviors are.
